I don't care too much about Okamiden. Played it briefly when it came out and it completely failed to capture me the way Okami did. I don't know about a remaster. Honestly, the only reason Okamiden existed was because it was much cheaper to do than the original and it had much lower risks of being a commercial failure. Even then, it still sold pretty poorly. And about the difficulty.

Survival

I would say Okami is fairly easy. Just like 64 bit Zelda, you can get a max of 20 health units, with the strongest attacks in the game taking maybe 6-8 max per hit. Like Zelda again, you get up to 4 revives with the Astral Pouch (basically fairies).

However, and this is what pretty much breaks the difficulty, you can stack up to 99 of any of the 3 healing items (one of which cures you to 100% of your life), items to restore your Astral Pouch (harder to get because they are sold for demon fangs) and items to make you invincible. So, as you progress, using these items just makes the challenge non-existent.

You still have to be good enough to beat the bosses, but there’s basically no punishment unless you’re slow enough when opening the menu in an emergency case.Add to that the fact that the Thief's Glove can pretty much one-shot anything in the game if you grind long enough, and you have a game that demands you make some kind of challenge run if you want to get a little bit of difficulty in the mix.I’d argue that for a first time player the difficulty is just fine, but for someone that knows what they’re doing the game won’t be too much of a challenge. I would recommend a no-upgrades challenge, or at the very least a 3 solar unit challenge (essentially stolen from the 3 heart unit challenge from Zelda) for anyone who has already played the game to completion before.
